Diversity is at the heart of Pioneers; we bring together climate change professionals and organisations from across public, private, research & not-for-profit backgrounds from a range of different climate change sectors. We offer the unique opportunity to engage with others on a European level, share expertise & best practice, expand networks and create new products and services in the field of the climate change.
During the programme you will complete one placement (4-6 weeks, regional or international), work in groups on real climate challenges and receive tailored mentoring and support on transition thinking and system innovation in the area of climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Pioneers, a professional exchange programmed created by Climate-KIC, has taken root in the Netherlands since 2013. The programme is able to take advantage of the high quality of human capital in the Netherlands, attracting professionals from diverse fields like water management, architecture, consultancy and governance. Organisations from the public and private sector, and research organisations, have joined the programme to utilize the expertise of pioneers and share their own knowledge and skills.
Over the past three years, the Dutch programme has flourished, attracting host organisations like the Provincial Government of Utrecht, Grontmij, Deltares, and TNO. Smaller start-ups and non-profits such as Aqua-Spark and SKAO creates a rich pool of hosts with a wide range of activities and missions. Regional organisations including the Nature and Environment Federation of Utrecht and the Economic Board of Utrecht provide the practical and local nature of challenges carried out through the group assignment. Pioneers in the Netherlands are challenged to get out of their comfort zone and work in a different field or sector with these engaging organisations.
